Higher Ground Christian Worship Center is devoted to advancing the kingdom of God by making disciples.
We are a diverse congregation dedicated to equipping believers through Worship, Outreach, and Christian Education.
We are inspired to express what it means to be the church - the body of Christ. We are the living organization which continues the work of Jesus Christ by demonstrating his love and power. This is what it means to live in Christ. Our focus is reflected in our foundational scripture; Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3:1-2
Under the leadership of Steven R. Tucker, Higher Ground Christian Worship Center (HGCWC) was formed and officially incorporated in the state of Texas in 2010. Not only was our first meeting on the property of Boysville, Inc., the Board of Directors were gracious enough to open their hearts and their doors and allow us to worship at the Housman Chapel.
Over the next few years, HGCWC supported community activities such as the Boysville Auction, the HGCWC Back To School Rally, the Annual Backpack Donation, annual Thanksgiving and Christmas giveaways, support to the San Antonio Food Bank as well as benevolence to members of the community who were in need.
We realized that what we’d accomplished could not be possible without the Boysville leadership, staff, Board of Directors and more importantly, the children who reside on the campus. Unfortunately, the chapel did not yield the visibility that would aid in the growth of our congregation enabling us to do more for the community.
As a result, HGCWC purchased 9760 Rocket Lane, Converse, TX 78109 as our new home in May 2014. Although the property was constructed in 2006 for commercial purposes, we believed that the property was built just for us. Despite the level of detail still yet to be seen, we praised God for a property with ten thousand square feet of usable space and approximately two acres of undeveloped land adjacent to the property for expansion.
Higher Ground’s overall goal has always been to honor God and provide a community-centered place of worship designed to meet the needs of the congregation and local community. We were thrilled to complete phase one of our project, move into our home and held our first service at 9760 Rocket Lane in 2019.
We stand united as a diverse congregation dedicated to equipping and developing believers through Worship, Outreach and Christian Education. In addition, we confirm our devotion to advancing the Kingdom of God by making disciples with Passion, Excellence, Accountability, Relevance and Love.
We believe that God has spoken in the sixty-six books of the bible, both the Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. The Bible alone is to be believed in all that it teaches; obeyed in all that it requires; and trusted in all that it promises. (Psalm 19:7-11; Matthew 5:18; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)
